Factor Rainbows

1 min read

A hands-on activity that turns factor hunting into a colorful, visual math adventure! Great for finding factor pairs, identifying square numbers, and noticing structural patterns, all while building number sense.

🧠 Skills in Action:

✔️ Visualizing Factor Pairs: Connect matching factors using a colorful arc to see how they multiply together.

✔️ Developing Number Sense: Physically track why some numbers have many factors while others have very few.

✔️ Discovering Square Numbers: Notice what happens to the rainbow shape when a number multiplies by itself (2 x 2 = 4).

✔️ Pattern Recognition: Easily spot prime numbers (only one single arc!) versus composite numbers.

🎯 Goal:

Use physical objects to build a colorful factor rainbow, giving children a concrete model to map out every factor pair for a given number.
